I need queer-specific resources

( back to index )

Chicago is honestly a great place to get queer-specific services; we have informed consent hormone prescriptions, LGBTQ health centers, a lot of services for PLHIV, commitment from lawmakers to keep the state friendly to gay, queer, and trans people, and so on. However most of the organizations that provide services have g-dawful fucking websites so I might as well have done this research once so no one has to do it again.

There's going to be a lot of crossover between here and the health page because that's kind of a big political issue so, you know.

Howard Brown Health - The big health org serving Chicago's lower-income queer population. You want hormones you got hormones. Note that there's been some internal upheaval and turnover due to some shity management policies; I don't know if that's settled yet or not. They're still open, though, obviously. Provides PCP services on a sliding scale, referrals, and case management for health situations.

Chicago House -

Center on Halsted - Kind of an LGBTQ community center. Hosts cool community events and a number of services oriented toward queer Chicago residents, such as therapy groups, services for seniors, a computer center, etc.

Intraspectrum Counseling - Counseling intended to serve the Chicago queer community. They're nice, although they often have a waitlist.
